Some weeks later. On patrol. Sort of.

Buffy stopped kissing Faith and opened her eyes. Looking over Faith's shoulder she could see a vampire creeping up on them. He was hoping to catch the lovers by surprise, but he hadn't reckoned on Slayer senses. She whispered into Faith's ear:

"Vamp approaching at twelve o'clock."

Faith merely smirked, said, "I'm already on it," and rolled backwards off the tomb, turning as she did so to face the vampire. She threw her stake at the startled figure, then ran forward, and was just in time to catch the stake as it fell out of the cloud of dust that was now all that remained of the target.

"Wicked! Five to the brunette! Only four to the blonde!" she crowed, turning back to face Buffy.

Buffy smiled back indulgently at her happy girlfriend and Faith's heart swelled with pride. Buffy was hers and all was right with the world.

#Your smile can make the darkness turn to light. Your eyes make gold and silver not so bright. Your hair is as soft as a summer night. You've got what I like.#

Sprinting back to Buffy's side, Faith sprang up onto the tomb with alacrity, and sat next to her once again.

"Now where were we? Oh, yes, you were kissing me senseless." Faith grinned.

"No, I wasn't," said Buffy in mock seriousness. "You were kissing me senseless."

"Oh, was I?" Faith raised an eyebrow. "We'll have to see about that." She was just about to pounce on Buffy to make her take that back, when a movement in the periphery of her vision caught her attention. "Oh, no," she groaned, "another one at three o'clock. You wanna take this one?"

Buffy gently laughed at Faith's annoyance, kissed her, then slipped off the tomb to deal with the luckless bloodsucker in very short order. Faith looked on in admiration as Buffy expertly made it 'five all' in the vampire elimination stakes.

#You say the things I want you to. You walk like an angel out of the blue. And when you hold me my life starts anew. You've got what I like.#

As Buffy returned to Faith's side, her triumphant smile became a yawn. She checked her watch.

"It's getting late," she said. "I say we call it a night and go to bed."

"Which one?" Faith asked teasingly. "Yours or mine?"

Buffy paused to think it over. "There is no yours and mine. There is only ours."

Faith liked the way she said that. Ours, it had a ring to it. Up until recently she had always stood alone. But now there was someone else standing beside her, and she now realised there always would be. At last she had found her home. Somewhere to live, someone to belong to. Her place in the sun. You - me - us - ours. It all made perfect sense.

"Ours," she said out loud. "Let's go to our bed," she declared. And then they did.

#You've got the lips I long to kiss. And when we go on dates now, endless bliss. You'd make a desert island come to life. You make the whole world free from strife. You are the one I'm gonna make my wife. You've got what I like.#

And, dear reader, I'm sure you'd like to know, they did get married and they were very happy.

The End
